GOLFER Rory McIlroy has welcomed news that the Irish Open 2017 is coming to Fermanagh in 2017.
The current world number 9, a former touring professional at the Lough Erne Resort, passed on a video message on to the those attending the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event at the hotel over the past number of days.
He was speaking from Texas, where he is there for the Houston Open.
McIlroy, pictured, said that he was ‘delighted’ at the news that the North would host the Irish Open at Royal County Down in 2015, and Lough Erne in 2017.
“Obviously I was the touring professional there (Lough Erne) for a number of years and I think that it’ll present a really good test for the guys when the Irish Open is held there,” he said.
“So, great announcement, great for Irish golf as a whole, and I look forward to teeing it up at both venues.”
