SINN FEIN members in Erne North have selected Belleek man John Feely to represent the party in the forthcoming local government elections.
Mr Feely, who works locally in the public sector, has been a member of Sinn Fein since the 1990s and is well known in the local area.
John also helps out on the family farm and works part time in the local hospitality sector and is a committed member of the trade union movement.
Speaking after his selection, Mr Feely said: “I am honoured to have been selected by the party membership locally to represent Sinn Féin at the forthcoming elections in Erne North.
“As an active member of Sinn Fein locally, I am all too well aware of the issues facing the people of Erne north and I will strive to be the best public representative that I can.
“People are concerned about the lack of job opportunities in this area and the return of forced emigration, something we had all hoped had been consigned to history. As someone who was born in London to Irish emigrants, I know all too well the negative impact that emigration has on rural communities.
“I believe that there is much greater opportunity for the new council to deliver greater job opportunities for the people of Erne North, particularly by overcoming some of the challenges facing business by the senseless partition of Ireland.
“As a Sinn Fein representative, my main focus will be on removing partition in Ireland and delivering a 32 county Irish republic, which delivers social justice for all of its citizens.
“The unity of the Irish nation, not only geographically, but also culturally and economically must be our priority in the coming period.”
The local government elections will be held on May, 22.
