A £300,000 funding grant has been given to the council to spend on playparks in Enniskillen.
Work is currently underway in the town to boost the recreation areas in the area, with work expected to be completed by June of this year.
At the Round ‘O’ on the Shore Road, an outdoor gym is to be equipped with 11 pieces of cardio vascular and resistance fitness equipment, suitable for participants of varying abilities.
At Derrin Park, the existing grass pitch is being refurbished, as is the play area, to include fencing.
The laying of a new polymeric surface to the existing Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at Loughview Drive is underway, along with remedial drainage works.
At Windmill Road, there is the development of a new MUGA, an all-weather pitch measuring approximately 42 metres by 20 metres.
The funding has come from the NI Executive through the Department for Social Development to undertake the Enniskillen Neighbourhood Renewal Playparks project to enhance the provision of outdoor fitness and recreation equipment in the Neighbourhood Renewal area of Enniskillen.
The partnership provides direction for the initiative locally and is facilitated by Fermanagh District Council through a full-time project co-ordinator and by providing technical assistance and support.
