Fiona Crudden with Thomas Cleary, Anne Malanaphy, Delores Corrigan, John McGovern and Hugh Murphy of The Kinawley Drama Club who will be performing “It’s the real McCoy”.

NEXT Friday night, April 4, Kinawley Drama Group will put on their 48th annual performance in the community centre in Kinawley.

This year’s performance is the comedy ‘It’s the Real McCoy’, a three act play which will amuse and entertain all those who see it.

Kinawley Drama Group was formed back in 1966 and the group have managed to put on a performance every year since.

“It’s a story of love, betrayal and turf” said Hugh Murphy, one of the founding members of Kinawley Drama Group who acts and co-directs the production with John McGovern.

The play features a cast of seven actors including Hugh Murphy who plays Tom Molloy, who is returning home from England after being away for 45 years.

Fiona Crudden plays the central part of Marge Molloy, who was married to Tom for four months before he went away for 45 years.

Other characters in the play include Maeve, Marge’s daughter (played by Dolores Corrigan), Father McCoy, played by James Breen, Nora (Anne Melanophy), and Jora (Thomas Cleary) with John McGovern playing postman Martin Daly.

“It’s a three act play packed with plenty of laughs and it’s very very funny” says Hugh Murphy.

Asked if they were planning to do more than one performance, Hugh said they always start out with one, and may take the play around a few different places after that.

Hugh Murphy said they couldn’t put on their production without the backstage crew. Dean Straghey is in charge of lights, Christine Gillece, Catherine Owens and Helena Ward are looking after the stage, set design and construction Tony Melanopy and Catherine Brennan is looking after make-up.

Doors open at 8.15pm in Kinawley Community Centre for ‘It’s the Real McCoy’.

“It’s the Real McCoy” is a riot of fun; brilliantly funny yet serious and even sad in parts.
