A message from those who won’t be making it home this Mother’s Day

Mother's Day Leona

MISS YOU… Leona McHugh with mum Mary

MOTHER’S Day can be a day of appreciation and thanks for that special woman – a time for her to put the feet up and be made feel extra special.

Unfortunately though, many people, as much as they’d like to, don’t make it home for Mother’s Day – which takes place this Sunday.

And, the Fermanagh Herald got speaking to a couple who found themselves away from mum this year – with university commitments proving a big culprit.

For Derrygonnelly-born Seamus O’Dare, he’s disappointed that he’ll not make it home in time this year.

The 20-year-old is studying in Bournemouth, and is thinking about mum Maureen, who works as a carer in the Milcroft, Enniskillen.

“She is the number one mum, not only because she always supports me and inspires me, but because she is a great person and puts others before herself,” said Seamus.

“Mum, as much as I miss the dinners and the odd trip to River Island, I can rest assured that you will be on the other end of the phone to cheer me up or give me advice whenever I need it! Happy Mother’s Day.”

Daniel Owens, from Enniskillen, lives in Liverpool – and passed on his own message to his mother Rosaleen.

“My mother and I are very close, the same as my brother and three sisters we always have remained close to both our parents.

“I will be sorry to miss Mother’s Day, it would be lovely to deliver her card and present in person. I told her to expect a phone call about midday!”

19-year-old Leona McHugh is studying at university in Liverpool, and although she’s managing to get home for Easter, she’s missing out on seeing her mother this Sunday.

Mary McHugh lives in Monea and works in the Jolly Sandwich in Enniskillen.

Leona described her as the ‘funniest’ and ‘friendliest’ women she knows: “I miss her loads and wish I could be with her this weekend but we will be reunited on the 7th with her. I hope she has a lovely day – lots of love Leona!”

Sarah Crudden, a student from Enniskillen, and living in Sheffield described her mum Stella as ‘the most influential person’ in her life.

“She raised five children, worked in a high pressured job and even now when she has retired she is on- the-go constantly, helping others. She has always encouraged me to aim higher and get the most out of life and unfortunately doing just that, I’m studying for exams this Mother’s day and sadly can’t be at home.”
