Based on the TV show Cancer Focus Northern Ireland has joined forces with Ultimate Health and Fitness Irvinestown, to launch a sponsored Biggest Loser challenge – and is urging local men and women to sign up.

The aim is to lose weight, adopt a healthier lifestyle and to raise funds for Cancer Focus NI, a charity that provides free services for cancer patients and their families right across Northern Ireland.

The challenge will run for a total of six weeks through Lent from Wednesday of March 5 to Sunday April 20.

There will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place as well as a prize for the highest fundraiser.

Sponsors Ultimate Health Fitness, Irvinestown, will be offering successful applicants 6 weeks full gym membership for free with group training sessions accompanied by nutritional plans and advice.

There will also be some fun filled action packed bootcamp days with a few surprises along the way.

“This is a tough but rewarding challenge that will really give visible results,” said Community Fundraiser for Cancer Focus, Gareth McElduff.

“We all know how hard it is to get into a healthy routine. This challenge will give participants the tools and support from Patrick Doherty and his staff at Ultimate Health and Fitness to make a difference in their fitness and lifestyles with the added bonus of making it fun through the bootcamp days. We are also asking participants to raise a minimum sponsorship for each pound shed.”

The challenge has been running in Omagh and Cookstown over the past year and has been a great success for both the charity and the individuals themselves.

“The first Biggest Loser competition was such a success, raising over £19,000 for the Charity and changed the lives of many of the participants for ever,” he said.

Unlike the TV show there will not be a weekly elimination. Prizes include a full make-over for the winner, clothes, hair styling and make-up as well as various vouchers from local businesses for runner up and highest fundraiser.
