Kim Forster raised the money with the ‘Red Cross’ for the Typhoon Haiyan – with the group confirming her total this week.

“I had never been involved before – but we all knew about the Philippines disaster and it kept playing on my mind,” Kim told the Fermanagh Herald.

Mum to Emma, Phoebe, Samuel and Eliza, Kim the made strides to find out just how she could help.

“So I looked at who organises fund-raising – I thought there was no reason why I couldn’t raise maybe £100 so that’s how it started.

“I asked on Facebook would anybody be interested in this little idea, and all of a sudden the schools started coming back to me.”

Kim asked schools and local groups to make or decorate their own Christmas bauble, in any way they wanted, and to hang it on their tree in school, then donate to the Red Cross.

She also set up a Facebook page called ‘Bring a Bauble, Philippines Appeal’.

“It was meant to be originally for our own little school, Newtownbutler Primary, and then all of a sudden other people were contacting saying that they’d like to be in and that’s how it carried on.”

She had over 10 schools, businesses and community groups involved.  And, Kim, who is married to Adrian, also enlisted the help of her two ‘middle’ children, Phoebe and Samuel.

“The two middle children took part, they made their own baubles  – they’d quite a few different types of baubles. There was glitter and glue everywhere too – it was great fun.”

Kim thanked all those who had donated and helped out in her campaign.
