LOCAL grammar schools are lagging behind other schools across the North when it comes to ‘A’ level results, according to the latest league tables.
None of the four Enniskillen grammar schools featured in the top forty schools in the North with the best performing school here, Mount Lourdes Grammar, still only ranking 45th out of a total of 68 grammar schools.
St Michael’s College was ranked 53rd, Enniskillen Collegiate 61st and Portora 62nd in the school rankings published by Belfast-based news agency the Detail.
Portora principal, Neil Morton, said that the issue of the latest league tables had been the subject of a ‘serious review’ in his school, adding that the school is confident ‘that it has been addressed to the extent that there will be no replication’.
Collegiate principal, Elizabeth Armstrong, while noting previous successes in league tables for her school, said that the school has ‘always recognised that they do not tell the full story’.
At A Level, Portora’s enrolment stands at 58. Those achieving three A Levels from A* to C was 64%. For the Collegiate’s 57 pupils, that was 64.3%, St Michael’s, 104 pupils, 68%, and Mount Lourdes, 121 pupils, 72.7%.
