A £250, 000 investment into Newtownbutler has provided what has been described as a ‘real boost’ for the area.

The fruits of the investment were revealed last week – with the community benefiting from the development of state of the art recreational facilities in the village.

The village’s new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and outdoor gym were officially opened by chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Councillor Alex Baird.

A number of events have already taken place at the MUGA including MUGA Mania – a day of sporting activities involving three local primary schools – and a cross border football tournament involving a number of local youth clubs.

The outdoor gym, is equipped with cardiovascular and resistance fitness equipment suitable for people of varying abilities.

Located beside the MUGA in Lurganboy Park, the outdoor gym is free to use and open to the public 24 hours a day.

Other improvements undertaken in Newtownbutler village as part of the Council’s Integrated Village Action Plan initiative include the installation of a community noticeboard and digital information kiosk and the erection of welcome signage.

Bert Robinson, chairman of Newtownbutler Together, said:

“The new development complements the existing childrens’ play area in the village.
