A 26-year-old Lisbellaw man told police officers they were “f*****g useless” as they went to his aid when a row erupted between him and another man.
William Richard Brian Stewart, of Rathview Park, Mullybritt, was out socialising in a pub on Townhall Street, Enniskillen, when he became involved in the altercation.
Stewart admitted to a charge of disorderly behaviour when he appeared before Enniskillen Magistrates Court and was ordered to pay fines totalling £215.
A prosecutor outlined to the court that on October 20 at approximately 1.45am the defendant was spotted by police arguing with another man outside the pub.
The two men were identified and asked if they wanted to make a compliant but Stewart refused and told police they were “f*****g useless”.
He was shouting and swearing loudly and he continued to push past the officers and was subsequently arrested but he continued to be highly aggressive.
Stewart clenched his fists and pushed out his chest stating: “Under arrest, do you think so, come on then.”
Police warned the accused they would use CS spray if he did not calm down. However, he continued to shout abuse at them forcing the officers to hand-cuff him and he was taken to Enniskillen Police Station.
Defence solicitor Garry Smyth said that his client felt he was wronged.
Explaining to the court the hours leading up to the incident Mr Smyth: “He had returned home after work and was out socialising and was at a local pub when someone pushed into him a swung a blow and hit him.
“The other man was thrown out of the pub and the defendant remained inside with his partner. But later when he left he happened to meet the man outside by chance.
“He accepts that his behaviour with police was not appropriate and regrets getting into the situation. It’s his first conviction for disorderly behaviour.”
District Judge Nigel Broderick said that his comments to police were unacceptable and fined him a total of £215.
