A SOCIAL housing scheme in Belcoo, that will provide 10 homes, six for older people, when completed in March next year, has started on the former police station site overlooking the Cottage Lawn and Lough MacNean.

The £900,000 project is being developed by Ark Housing Association whose head offices are in Belfast. They have similar schemes throughout the north, but this is their first in Fermanagh.

The main contractor is Brendan Loughran, Carrickmore, and the designer is JNP Architects, Belfast.

A  spokesman for the developer explained that a latent demand for social housing locally was identified by the NI Housing Executive, based on housing need and  housing stress.

“There are 10 units of which  six are Category One apartments for older people, two are 3-bedroom general needs family groups and two are two-bedroom family homes.”

He expected the homes to be completed by February/March next year, by which time the Housing Executive will have drawn up a list of tenants from its waiting list application scheme.

“We would then follow the directives set down by the Executive as to how the units are allocated”, he added.

In common with his colleagues – for whom the scheme is a ‘first’ in Fermanagh – the spokesman has been bowled over by the scenic beauty on offer to would-be tenants.
