BELCOO woman Bronagh Corrigan, a member of the teaching staff in Holy Trinity primary school in Enniskillen, who is in charge of an Autistic Unit for Key Stage One pupils, is the winner of the Pearson Teaching Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in Northern Ireland.
Bronagh was selected from over 24,000 nominations received for this year’s awards, and is one of only 62 winners in schools across England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
In their citation, the judges described Bronagh as, ‘a worthy winner’.
It went on: “Her contribution to the life of the school and the wider community is truly exceptional. “She is an outstanding team player, a genuine and humble person, who puts the needs of others ahead of herself.
“She is without doubt a motivator, a fun person, a caring, calm, kind-hearted genius, who leads by example. It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege for the Teaching Awards judges to have visited her Unit and observe her inspirational work.”
Bronagh will now join fellow winners at the UK final of the Teaching Awards on 20th October.
Rod Bristow, the president of Pearson UK noted that Holy Trinity PS currently has pupils from eight different religious denominations and children for whom there are 14 different home languages, all educated together.”
A significant amount of staff members’ time is dedicated to building mutually supportive relationships with the parents and families of the children, and, it was also one of the parents Geraldine Maguire who nominated Bronagh.
It was at school assembly on Monday morning that Lord Brookeborough presented Bronagh with her award.
He told the pupils he looked forward to visiting the school on another occasion.
