PORTORA STUDENT, Laura Mellor competed in the Miss Northern Ireland earlier this week, and she says it was an experience she won’t forget in a hurry.
“All the girls were fantastic, I thought I’d be really nervous but it was actually very exciting. The music was going and everyone was just really looking forward to it,” explained Laura, speaking the morning after the event.
The final was held in the Europa Hotel, with Lisburn girl, Meagan Green, crowned the winner.
It was hosted by former Miss Northern Ireland, Zoe Salmon, and TV news broadcaster, Marc Mallet.
“I’m glad I’ve entered,” Laura continued, “I made some good friends and it was a good experience. And I’d like to thank my sponsors, David McNulty and Chantilly Lace, Enniskillen who provided my dress.”
But, she doesn’t foresee any further entries in similar competitions in the near future.
“I think that’ll be the end until I get to university and finish my degree. If anything came up I’d probably take the chance – but I think I’ll focus on my studies.”
The Belcoo girl is in her final year at Portora Royal, in Enniskillen.
She is studying studies Economics, Business Studies and Moving Image Arts at the school and faces her first A-Level exam this week.
“I’ve my first exam on Friday, so I’m going home today (Tuesday) – and I’ll get revising,” she said.
