Farming inspector Leslie retires after 40 years

Leslie Campbell who has served the farmers of Fermanagh for 40 years

AFTER almost  40 years serving the farmers of Fermanagh DARD Inspector Leslie Campbell has retired.

His career began as a member of the industrial staff at Enniskillen College of Agriculture (ECA) in 1973 just a few days after he had left as a student.

Over the years Leslie also worked in the fat-stock section, the milk section based at creameries in Omagh and Lisnaskea, and with the inspectorate staff in Trillick and Enniskillen.

Leslie  also spent a time under a secondment from the Department of Agriculture working with the South West Fermanagh Development Organisation Ltd.
Based in Teemore, Leslie took on a key role aiding the local association with their Suckler Calf Initiative.

In 1996 Leslie joined the newly formed Countryside Management Division, where he had responsibility for the delivery of agri-environment schemes in the Lisbellaw – Enniskillen area.

He developed a keen interest in the improvement of traditional farm buildings and in hedgerow restoration.

At his retirement function on January  31 2012 in Inishkeen House, Leslie spoke of the change of focus in farming over the years and recounted his fond memories of working with Fermanagh farmers.

Leslie who farms near Ballinamallard, said he is looking forward to spending more time on the family farm during his retirement.
