Saturday saw the official launch of the Enniskillen ComicFest when a group of costumed heroes and villains appeared in Enniskillen at various local landmarks around the town.

Visitors to Enniskillen Library were surprised when Judge Dredd and friends arrived and there was great excitement in the Erneside Shopping Centre when the characters appeared.  Later The Kingpin, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy were apprehended by the PSNI in East Bridge Street!

Despite the wet Fermanagh weather the characters created a stir wherever they went.
In May 2016 Enniskillen will host its first festival of comics, illustration and storytelling.

The comics industry is incredibly diverse with comics available in every genre and aimed at both genders and all ages.  There is something for everybody!

The Enniskillen Comic Fest will take place in the McArthur Hall in Darling Street and in Enniskillen Library on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th May, with a wide range of events taking place to celebrate comic art and culture, and promote sequential art and storytelling.  There will be many top creators present from across the UK and Ireland who have worked for British and American publishers.

The event has been funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and is also supported by Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism and Enniskillen Library.

The historic market town of Enniskillen has a longstanding connection with the creative arts. Many giants of the literary and art worlds have spent time here and been inspired by beautiful County Fermanagh making it the perfect location for this celebration of pop culture.

The Festival includes a variety of workshops, talks, mentoring sessions and portfolio reviews over the two days with Friday 6th seeing our schools programme being run, when the creators will be made available to local schools to demonstrate and talk about their work.

Sequential art is widely recognised for educational applications and the promotion of literacy so this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Saturday 7th May will then be a full open day for the public with a full schedule of events and the creators accessible to everyone for autographs and sketches, as well as an opportunity for aspiring writers and artists to get an invaluable insight into their experiences in the comics industry.

Local creators will have a chance to show and sell their work and there will be “Small Press” writers and artists from across Ireland.
