ALMOST £22,000 has been raised in memory of Johnny Murray, the much-loved father-of-two who passed away on Cuilcagh Mountain, as asome of his friends get ready to take part in a major fitness challenge.
Some of Mr Murray’s friends are set to travel to Westport in Mayo to take part in the ‘Sea to Summit Supreme’ event on Saturday (November 8), with all proceeds raised going towards Mr Murray’s family.
The event begins with a four kilometre run, followed by an eight kilometre cycle. The group will then face a seven kilometre run up Croagh Patrick.
Mr Murray’s friends will also complete a challenging 35 kilometre cycle, before they conclude the ‘Sea to Summit Supreme’ event with a four kilometre run.
At the time of going to press, £21,545 has been raised in memory of Mr Murray.
Mr Murray from Roslea was a well-known fitness enthusiast. Weeks before his passing, he completed a hugely difficult 106-kilometre charity cycle around Loch Ness in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Kinawley man Gabriel McHugh, who is set to take part in the recent ‘Sea to Summit Supreme’ challenge in Mayo, feels it’s important to remember Mr Murray’s memory.
“As many of you know, our hearts were broken following the devastating and unexpected passing of Johnny Murray,” Mr McHugh explained.
“Johnny was a great friend and an even better husband to his treasured wife and father to two beautiful children.
“His warmth, strength, humour and unwavering love were the foundation of their home and now, his absence leaves an unimaginable void.”

The late Johnny Murray.
