THE ERNE Boat Rally is gearing up for it’s 60th year, promising a spectacular celebration on the water.
The milestone event will bring together boating enthusiasts from near and far, marking six decades of camaraderie, adventure, and nautical tradition on Lough Erne.
The rally will start at what most people declare to be the rally headquarters, The Seven Horseshoes in Belturbet on Friday, May 30. After the wine reception and an exchange of flags, the Commodore is piped to his table and so the weekend begins with the dinner dance.
On Saturday morning, the group will then gather at Belturbet Marina for the Commodore’s briefing where the day’s plans are discussed and any last minute advice imparted.
“We will then cruise north with a company of between 50 and 60 boats of all shapes and sizes towards Enniskillen for a lunch stop at the Round ‘O’ and then proceed across the Lough to the Lough Erne Yacht Club for a night of music and craic and an overnight stay,” Sean Cassidy, Chairman of the Erne Boat Rally Committee, said.
“The next morning, after an ecumenical service, we will cruise to the beautiful natural secluded cove at Rossigh for The Commodores wine and cheese event.
“After that, we head north again to the fabulous Ross Harbour resort for another overnight of food and live entertainment.”
Monday morning sees the group set sail south towards The Moorings Restaurant in Bellanaleck for prizegiving and awards ceremony.
“We hope now for calm winds and smooth water over the weekend and if you want to join in entry is available on the Erne Boat Rally website,” Sean added.
“A huge thanks to all our sponsors and supporters in years gone by and hopefully into the future. Thanks to Waterways Ireland for their co-operation in facilitating this fantastic event. Perhaps one of the biggest inland Waterways events in Ireland.”
