Swimming club hits out at Forum ‘uncertainty’

A LOCAL swimming club has said that the ongoing speculation over the future of the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum could “destroy the hopes and dreams of our young swimmers” in the county.
It recently emerged that the redevelopment project will cost over £57 million, with local councillors set to meet at the Townhall on Tuesday (April 15) evening to decide on the proposed project.
With a public meeting scheduled to take place at the Enniskillen Hotel on Monday night, the Lakelanders Swimming Club has voiced their concerns over the lack of “consultation”.
“The swimmers are now working towards Aquasprint finals for the younger squad and Ulster Championships for the older swimmers, all the while trying to keep positive as the club faces such uncertainty with the ridiculous lack of proper research and consultation in planning for redevelopment of the Lakeland Forum,” a spokesperson for the club said.
“An alternative site or a refurbishment project needs to be planned to ensure continued 25m pool provision for Fermanagh. Closure of the pool will decimate Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming club and destroy the hopes and dreams of our young swimmers in addition to wiping out the club’s potential for developing young swimmers for years to come.”
