Former Irish Tarmac Rally champion Garry Jennings rolled back the years on Saturday when he and co-driver Rory Kennedy raced to victory at the GO Tour of the Sperrins Rally.
The Kesh man was competing behind the wheel of his new Rally2 Ford Fiesta but he didn’t require much time to acquaint himself with his latest machine as he clinched victory by almost 17 seconds from Clady’s Aidan Wray and co-driver Paddy McCrudden in their Volkswagen Polo, while Strabane’s former Irish Forest champion, Ryan Caldwell and Stephen O’Brien were third in their Rally2 Skoda Fabia.
This win was Jennings and Kennedy’s eleventh outright victory in their 20 years of rallying together. The pair won the Sperrins title back in 2023 as well, so it’s been a good course for them.
“I’m delighted because it’s the first run in the new car. It’s good to be competitive right away, out of the box. I probably wanted to go a wee bit harder,” he said.
