Huge turnout for Fermanagh’s first Camino

THE organisers of the Fermanagh Camino said they’re “overwhelmed by the success” of the inaugural event which has saw over 300 people trek around the county for Cancer Connect.
Kicking off on Sunday, the large crowd walked from Lough Derg to Lusty Beg.
On the second day, Monday, the participants clocked up the miles from Edgewater to the church at Castle Archdale.
Yesterday (Tuesday), the walkers enjoyed a boat trip from the Manor House to Devenish Island and then on to the Round O in Enniskillen, where they then went on a walk of the town.
Blessed with warm weather and sunshine all weekend, co-founder of Cancer Connect, Phil McGrenaghan, was pleased with the success of the fundraising initiative.
“We are overwhelmed by the success of the first-ever Fermanagh Camino,” he explained.
“Fermanagh put its best foot forward to support this charity and community. The sea of purple T-shirts symbolised a strength, hope and compassion that defines this special part of the world.
“All funds raised help us to continue to serve our community and support families affected by cancer diagnoses,” the co-founder of the Fermanagh charity added.
People from across Fermanagh, and some from further afield, took part in the three-day walk.
Monsignor Laurence Flynn from Lough Derg praised the local community for their support.
“It was an honour to see the Fermanagh Camino begin at Lough Derg connecting our shared heritage across the border,” explained Monsignor Flynn.
“This journey weaves the tranquility of Lough Derg with Enniskilllen’s historic heart, offering a meaningful path in support of Cancer Connect NI. I am grateful to be part of this inspiring first Camino.”
