FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council is to spend £60,000 on new laptops for its 40 councillors.
However, the ‘Herald understands councillors themselves have yet to be informed of the plan.
The council this week issued a tender looking for a company to supply the laptops.
It is part, the council states, of a ‘device refresh of laptops’ for use by councillors.
The tender states the estimated value of the laptop contract will be £60,000, including value added tax.
Therefore, the estimated value of each laptop is £1,500.
The closing date for submissions is April 28 and the contract is to run from May 1 to May 21 this year.
Every councillor in the North is provided with a laptop as part of their role.
The majority of council business across the North’s 11 local authorities is conducted electronically, with limited use of printed paper.
