Work to get underway on new cancer centre

WORK will soon begin on what is to become the North’s first regional cancer support centre, with a local contractor appointed to build the new Cancer Focus facility in Enniskillen.
The new therapeutic support centre, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, is part of a £7 million investment plan for the local area over the next 20 years.
The centre will be the first of five to be built by Cancer Focus NI across the North as part of a wider northern-wide five-year cancer strategy by the charity.
Cancer Focus has now announced it has awarded a £750,000 tender to a local construction firm to build the centre, which will be located at the old Gordon’s Chemist building on High Street in Enniskillen.
With Farry Construction now leading the building and renovation project, work is expected to get underway in the coming weeks.
Chief executive at Cancer Focus NI, Richard Spratt, said using a local construction firm was part of the charity’s drive to keep things local.
“When our charity launched a new five-year strategy last summer, we highlighted our commitment to becoming truly local across Northern Ireland. For us, that means more than delivering services in communities,” he said.
“It means hiring talent in those areas, partnering with businesses, and becoming part of the fabric of those places where we are situated.
“One key element of our work is the building itself and that is why we were keen to find the right talent and suppliers able to help us deliver on our goal of opening our charity’s first Cancer Support Centre right in Enniskillen’s town centre.
“Stephen Farry and the team at Farry Construction were the right fit for our ambitious plans and we cannot wait to see what they achieve in the coming months.”
