Country singer supports Fermanagh Women’s Aid

FERMANAGH Women’s Aid has praised local country music star Derek Ryan for his “unwavering support” after he donated the proceeds of his overseas concert tour to the Enniskillen organisation.
The Carlow singer, who lives in Enniskillen, recently performed to over 1,000 people during his sold-out two-weeks ‘Beat in the Heat’ trip in Costa Del Sol in Spain.
During the second week of the event, a collection at a mass celebrated by Navan priest, Fr. Martin McErlean, raised £1375 for Women’s Aid in Fermanagh.
Interim Chief Executive Officer at Fermanagh Women’s Aid, Kerrie Flood, was very pleased to receive the financial support from Mr Ryan’s hugely successful ‘Beat in the Heat’ tour.
“Fermanagh Women’s Aid have always benefited from the unwavering support of our local community,” Ms Flood told the Herald.
“To see that support spread beyond the borders of Fermanagh because of the power of music means so much to us.
“At a time when much of the voluntary sector is struggling, the support of Derek [Ryan], Fr [Martin] McErlean, the musicians and fans is so important.
“On behalf of the women and children of Fermanagh, thank you so much for this wonderful donation, it will make a huge impact,” added Ms Flood.
Based in Darling Street in Enniskillen, Fermanagh Women’s Aid is a non-profit organisation, which provides help and support to females and families who are suffering from domestic violence.
The Fermanagh-based group recently led a number of different workshops in the county, including at the Lemon Tree in Belleek, where there was a large turnout at the event.
“This is an eye opening session and you’ll not regret taking time to learn more about spotting the signs, the stigmas and the help available to those suffering from coercive control or domestic abuse,” they said.
“Open to all women, including women who work with women who may disclose information about abuse to them, and you don’t know what to do.
“This includes hairdressers, beauticians, solicitors, GPs, nurses, teachers and shop workers,” added Rooney’s Gift Store.
