Presentations made to retiring Delia

TRIBUTES continue to be paid to much-loved postmistress Delia Quigley who retired after 39 years of services to the the South Fermanagh community through her work at Derrylester Post Office.
Ms Quigley, originally from Boho, recently confirmed her retirement as postmistress at Derrylester Post Office, bringing down the shutters at one of the longest-standing community institutions in the county.
Representatives from the staff and student body at St Mary’s Primary School, Killesher, recently paid special tribute to the much-loved community stalwart.
“Our pupils, along with members of the community, gathered to celebrate this remarkable milestone and to express our gratitude for Delia’s unwavering commitment and service,” said principal John Cunningham.
“Her hard work and kindness have touched so many lives over the years. Delia’s presence at Derrylester Post Office will be greatly missed.
“We hope someone new will be appointed to the role soon, as the post office provides a vital service in our rural community,” he added.
Network Provision Lead at The Post Office, Janese Sung, ‘regrettably’ said in an open letter to the Fermanagh community that there’s no plans in place to replace Derrylester Post Office after its closure.
“The Post Office has undertaken a comprehensive review of the network to ensure that it continues to meet evolving customer needs in a very challenging economic climate,” said The Post Office’ Janese Sung.
“This review examined the network at a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office products and services.
“Consequently, it has informed our plans for the Network as we work to ensure that, our funding and resources are allocated to deliver maximum benefit for all customers.
“At this time, therefore, we are not looking to replace Derrylester [Post Office],” she confirmed.
The closure of Derrylester Post Office is another major blow to the Fermanagh community. Right in the heart of Enniskillen town centre, one of the busiest post offices in the county also recently closed down.
