New Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster has Fermanagh links

A LARGE crowd turned out to a leading church in London for the official ordination of the new Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster who has strong links and family connections to Fermanagh.
The Right Reverend James Curry, who’s parents were from Kinawley, was ordained as Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster and Titular Bishop of Ramsbury, at Westminster Cathedral in London recently.
His parents, James and May (nee McHugh), were born in Kinawley and immigrated to London around 70 years ago. The new Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster’s sister, Ann, still lives in Fermanagh.
Pope Francis recently confirmed in April that The Right Reverend James Curry would be ordained as Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, one of the highest positions in the Archdiocese of Westminster.
“When I received news of my appointment by the Holy Father to serve in this new way my first reactions were of shock and surprise,” Bishop Curry told ‘Catholic Church in England and Wales’.
The new Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster was ordained in May 1986 and he’s ministered throughout England, including as Chaplain to the Lord Mayor of London for two years.
Bishop Curry pledged his support to the community in the Archdiocese of Westminster following his special appointment from Pope Francis.
“To all fellow-pilgrims and those of other beliefs, whose friendship, kindness and hospitality have left a lasting imprint on my life, thank you. I ask you all for your prayers; be assured of mine,” he said.
Bishop Curry will visit Fermanagh at the end of August. He will celebrate Mass in St. Naile’s Church in Kinawley.
