Fermanagh public services hit by IT outage

FERMANAGH’S health system and other public services have been hit by the ongoing world-wide IT outage.

With doctors unable to access patient records, appointments are being cancelled and the public is being urged to only contact their GP surgeries in an emergency, and doctors unable to prescribe medication.

It is believed the problem – which is impacting a wide range of services around the world – it is related to an issue with Microsoft and global cybesecurity firm Crowdstrike, however it is not known what caused it.

Like all other medical services, Lisnaskea GP surgery Maple Healthcare is currently trying to deal with the fallout from the problem.

“As part of the global IT outage our computer system is affected,” they posted to Facebook. “This means we have no access to records and cannot prescribe or refer. We are open for emergencies. We will update when more information is available. We cannot contact the lab to see if they are able to process samples so best not to attend for bloods or routine appointments.”

Local Council facilities have also been affected, with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council posting, “Due to a global IT issue, our leisure centres are currently unable to accept payments by debit or credit card and at present can only accept cash payments. All other Council systems are working as normal.

“We are working with our service provider to resolve this as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”
