THE manager of Charlie’s Bar in Enniskillen said it was an ‘absolute honour’ as she picked up the prestigious ‘Community Hero’ accolade at the ‘Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards’ on Friday night.
Una Burns was awarded the ‘Community Hero’ award at the ceremony at the Culloden Estate, in recognition of her ‘Charlie’s Bar Christmas Kindness Fundraiser’ which raised money for charity.
Sponsored by Ulster Bank, the ‘Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards’ honoured local heroes and figures from across the North, who have made a major contribution to the local community.
Just before Christmas, the Enniskillen woman masterminded a powerful video which captured the hearts of millions of people around the world by showing the elderly’s need for companionship.
A GoFundMe page was set up in support of the viral video which helped to raise a staggering £23,000 for Age NI and the South West Age Partnership (SWAP), to support people across the North.
The Enniskillen publican said she was delighted to receive the award, which was presented by Coronation Street stars, Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) and Calum Lill (Joel Deering).
