A YOUNG woman is hitting the big screen in a new cheerleading film.
Shannon Bermingham from Enniskillen stars in the film ‘Eat/Sleep/Cheer/Repeat’ which follows her life in and outside of competitive cheerleading.
‘Eat/Sleep/Cheer/Repeat’ is an uplifting documentary following the young athletes of Team Ireland, to intimately explore questions of gender, strength, performance, sexuality and what it’s like growing up in the world today.
Shannon started cheerleading when she was 10 years old.
She began with Jets in Enniskillen and when she was 15 moved to her current club Stuntworx Elite who are based in Galway.
The film follows the 2022 Team Ireland squad, a team Shannon first qualified for in 2015.
“Every year there is an Ireland team which goes to World Championships and you have to try out, The small independent Irish film company reached out to my Team Ireland coach and they followed our journey,” Shannon explained.
The film crew followed the 26-year-old accountant’s life, in and outside of cheerleading.
“They [the crew] came to every single training session and every competition including the Worlds in Florida. They followed me, they came to my work, my house and to do interviews,” she explained.
Shannon was able to watch the film for the first time when it premiered at a red carpet event hosted by the Dublin Film Festival in February.
“I think the movie is a great representation of the friendships made through cheerleading and the stress that comes along with competing for your country,” she said.
