Mechanic hit man in bar in ‘moment of madness’

A MECHANIC who assaulted a man in an Enniskillen bar has been ordered to pay compensation.
Daniel Duffy (26) of Skea Road, Arney, appeared in Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The prosecution said Police responded to a call from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and attended an incident at the Crowes Nest bar, Enniskillen. On Police arrival the injured party was being treated by ambulance crew. He had a cut above the left eye and bleeding.
Defence barrister Ciaran Roddy remarked that this was a totally incomprehensible moment of madness and that Duffy had no recollection of the incident. It was said that Duffy knows the injured party but that there is no animosity there.
The defence noted that Duffy accepts the prosecution case against him. It was added that this was a very serious matter with very serious and lasting affects on the injured party both physically and emotionally. Mr Roddy said there was a low likelihood of Duffy reoffending and that he lives with his parents and works as much as six days a week as a mechanic.
District Judge Steven Keown ordered Duffy to complete 175 hours community service and made a compensation order of £1,000 with 26 weeks allowed for payment
