THREE Liverpool supporters who have been mates for years head for Madrid tomorrow to watch the Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur.
Steven Craig, James McKenna and Aidan McCarron head to the Spanish capital to cheer on their beloved Reds in a bid to take their fourth title.
Steven explains, “I booked my flight the day after their semi final win against Barcelona.
“Flying direct to Madrid was expensive and I only booked one way initially. Now because of prices I have to fly from Madrid to Porto and back to Dublin the day after the game.
“I’m looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere that surrounds a Champions League final. I get there on Thursday and hope get to the Liverpool Fanzone and a UEFA Fanzone.
“It’s the first Champions League final I’ll have been at. We have our own banner which we took to the quarter final in Porto and we’ll unfurl it again on Saturday night.
I would have preferred to avoid Spurs but I’m confident that if we turn up on the night we’ll get the win to make it six European Cup titles.
Aidan who has supported the Reds all his life pipes up, “I took a chance and booked early before the Barcelona game. Just as well I did.”
He was faced with a bit of a dilemma though. Aidan’s wife Annette is expecting their first baby shortly and panicked a bit when she was told that he was heading to Madrid to watch the big game.
“She’s used to being a football widow,” joked a calm Aidan. “and if she goes into labour while I’m away she has her mother to call on to squeeze her hand.”
He adds, “It’s going to be one of those games because there is little between the sides.”
