OVER 1,000 people have registered to take part in the fifth Fermanagh Darkness Into Light walk.
Taking place this Saturday, May 11th, Darkness Into Light is a unique, early morning experience which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking. The event is aimed at raising money and awareness for suicide prevention. Darkness Into Light is now in its fifth year in Lisnaskea and last year’s event attracted over 1,300 participants.
Registration numbers have been going well and organisers estimate up to 1,000 people will participate in this year’s event in Lisnaskea.
The event is very much a community event and will start with an energetic warm up with Dylan Quinn at 3.50 am and there will be lots of entertainment to add to the atmosphere with local Musicians – Travellin Trads performing in the Market yard. The Party Bees are going to bring a fun family aspect to the event with lots of children characters coming along to make an appearance and participate in the walk.
The local primary school children are very much involved in decorating Jam jars which will be used to light up the route.
Along the route on the night there will be lots of local talent entertaining and encouraging the participants such as local musicians and dancers from the Flanagan Academy of Irish Dance.
Patricia Flanagan, Health Promotion Coordinator with the Oak Healthy Living Centre said she was thrilled that Darkness Into Light will take place in Lisnaskea again this year.
Online registration and further details are available now at www.darknessintolight.ie or contact The Oak Healthy Living Centre on 028 67723843.
