High turnout across county, but issues in Enniskillen

WITH the counting of votes now under way here at the Omagh Leisure Complex in the 2019 Council election, a picture is beginning to emerge of how engaged the Fermanagh public have been in this campaign.
As expected, the rural towns and villages were more enthusiastic than in the county town. In Erne West, 69.03 percent of voters had their say, in Erne North the turnout was 63.2 percent, and the highest was in Erne East 71.6 percent in Erne East.
As always, in Enniskillen the turnout was lower, at 56.04 percent. However, some voters in the town have reported issues voting.
The Herald has learned some voters did not realise their polling station had changed. While it did state clearly on voting cards where that particular voter was to cast their vote, the change was not flagged up to these voters. In the instances the Herald is aware of, these voters were changed to stations further from their homes.
The Herald is aware of several voters who went to their usual polling stations only to find they were not on the list. They were instead listed at another voting station. One voter, from Enniskillen town centre, had voted many times at the Model Primary School in the past, but had been changed to Jones Memorial PS. The Herald is also aware of voters in the Cornagrade area being changed from Holy Trinity PS to Jones Memorial.
