Teachers’ target practice …all in a good cause!

TEACHERS at St Kevin’s College were the target as kind hearted Aoife O’Donnell raised funds for the Paediatric Diabetic Unit at SWAH.
Year 9 pupil Aoife O’Donnell organised a very successful ‘Soak the Teacher’ event on Thursday lunchtime.
13-year-old Aoife was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in April 2017.
Since then, she has received lots of support from The Paediatric Diabetic Unit in the SWAH and she raised £125 to donate to the unit.
Aoife wanted to raise funds to help fund social outings organised by a local diabetes nurse enabling teenagers suffering from diabetes in the Enniskillen and Omagh area to meet up.
Aoife’s mother Roisin said, “It’s a great opportunity for them to meet chat exchange tips and advice and I suppose speak with others in the same situation and know exactly how they’re feeling – they can relate to each other! She was delighted with the money raised and people are still contributing which is very generous of them and very much appreciated!’”
Since being diagnosed, Aoife must monitor her blood sugar levels, and uses insulin several times a day.
“Aoife’s doing really well and thankfully has adapted well – her bloods sugars may not always be on target but she tries really hard! it’s a continuing learning process and I suppose the older she gets the more mindful she’ll be of her diabetes,” said Roisin.
