Man (22) in court following seven hour roof stand-off

Belmore Street in Enniskillen was closed during the incident as emergency services flocked to the scene.

A MAN arrested last week after a seven-and-a-half hour roof stand-off with police in Enniskillen has been denied bail in court.
The incident last Thursday night saw a section of the town centre cordoned off. There was much speculation in the area, several emergency services, including police, ambulance crews and fire brigades at the scene, and a helicopter hovering overhead, attended the incident at Belmore Street.
On Friday police confirmed to the Herald the incident involved a young man on a roof for several hours. Specially trained police negotiators were called in to deal with the situation.
A PSNI spokesman said: “Police have arrested a 22-year-old male on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage in the Belmore Street area of Enniskillen at around 3.10am on Friday morning.
“The arrest follows a report of an assault in the Belmore Street area of Enniskillen at around 6.20pm on Thursday 14th June.
“Police attended along with the NIFS and NIAS and on arrival located a man on the roof of a house in the Belmore Street area of the town.
“The road was closed due to the concern for safety of the man and the public,” the spokesman said.
“Specially trained negotiation officers attended to the male and after seven and a half hours police arrested the man at the scene.”
On Saturday morning 22-year-old Mark Sheridan appeared at Omagh Magistrates Court charged with criminal damage, namely to roof tiles, possession of an offensive weapon, namely a roof tile, and disorderly behaviour on Belmore Street, all on June 14th. He is further charged with the criminal damage of a PSNI telephone on Saturday, June 16. Sheridan also faces charges of burglary and assault at Belmore Street on May 20th, and with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Ashdale, Enniskillen on March 10.
At Omagh Court on Saturday, Sheridan was remanded in custody after he was denied bail due to police concerns he could commit further offences, and concerns he could interfere with witnesses.
The case was adjourned to Enniskillen Magistrates Court, Enniskillen on June 25th.
