Drugs worth an estimated £12,000 have been seized in separate police raids in Co Fermanagh over the past week.
In the latest incident, two people were questioned by police following the discovery of what they called “a substantial cannabis factory” in Newtownbutler on Monday.
PSNI officers carried out a proactive search at a house on the Wattlebridge Road under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Cannabis plants worth more than £7,000 were found during the operation. A 45-year-old woman and a man aged 34 were detained at the property on suspicion of a range of drugs offences including cultivating cannabis and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.
The pair were subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries. The plants have been seized by police along with cultivation equipment and other drugs paraphernalia.
It follows a similar raid on a house at Foxhill Close in Enniskillen last Wednesday morning, April 18th. A quantity of herbal cannabis worth an estimated £5,000 and other assorted paraphernalia associated with the supply of illegal drugs was seized along with a sum of money.
A man aged 30 and a 26-year-old woman were arrested at the scene on suspicion of a number of offences, including possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and possessing criminal property. Both were interviewed and later released on bail whilst police enquiries into the matter continue.
Also last Wednesday, one person was arrested after cash and suspected Class A and Class B drugs were seized following the search of a property in the Cornagrade area.
Inspector Jonathan Gordon said this week: “I would continue to encourage members of the public with concerns or suspicions around drug cultivation or drug dealing to make local police aware. By working together we can strike a blow against those who would seek to bring drugs into our communities.”
Anyone with any information regarding the above incidents has been encouraged to contact Enniskillen Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
