A 54-YEAR-OLD woman who went on a shop-lifting spree has pocketed a suspended jail sentence.
Stealing a range of items including toiletries, clothing, jewellery and three chicken wraps, Della Taggart from Montaighroe Road, Ederney was warned by District Judge Oonagh Mullan that she needs to sort her behaviour out, if she is to avoid going to prison.
The court heard that on June 7 2016, Taggart entered Poundland, Heatons and Peacocks in Strabane making off with over £80 worth of goods.
Judge Mullan also noted as concerning the high degree of planning within the thievery. The prosecution explained that in one of the local premises Taggart took items to a “CCTV blackspot” so that she wouldn’t be seen stealing them.
Prior to sentencing District Judge Oonagh Mullan said she had a number of concerns, notably that a previous probation report recorded a similar set of events for an offence in 2015.
Referring to the current offences the judge added, “When you were stealing one of the items you went to a (CCTV) blackspot. To me that makes me consider how planned this was.”
Taggart was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for three years.
