Outgoing MP Tom Elliott sees himself as the “underdog” in next month’s Westminster election but said he expects to pick up votes from across the community.
Speaking after handing his nomination papers into the Omagh electoral officer earlier this week, Mr Elliott said representing local people when it came to Brexit, and making sure local businesses could avail of the “huge opportunities” it will bring, was high on his agenda.
“People must realise Brexit is going to happen. It has been voted by the people of the United Kingdom so it is going to happen,” said the UUP candidate.
“What we need to do is make sure we get the best deal possible between the European Union and the United Kingdom and that’s for the benefit of the citizens of the United Kingdom, and in particular the citizens of Northern Ireland and Fermanagh South Tyrone.”
