A DEFIBRILLATOR that had been used to save someone’s live, has been destroyed by thugs at Trillick GAA club.
The at St Macartan’s GAC Club on Gargadis Road, Trillick which was stored on an outside wall of the clubhouse, was taken from the cabinet, and completely destroyed.
The vandals also broke a window in the ladies toilet. The incident is believed to have occurred in the middle of last week, but damage was discovered early on Saturday morning.
Club chairman Francie Gallagher, has been left shocked by the malicious act.
“It is very disappointing that this would happen, and that there is people of this mindset in our community who would destroy these life saving facilities. The defibrillator was available to the whole community, and has been used successfully in the past. This vandalism is in stark contrast to the sterling work being done by the members at the club. The reality is that it could be a family member of the people who done this that needs the defibrillator one day.”
Many local people took to social media to express their anger and disgust about the damage caused to the local club.
Mary Garrity, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council chairman, and club member at St Macartan’s GAA club has branded the act of vandalism as ‘madness.’
“This is worrying and distressing for such a quiet village. This defibrillator has previously been used to save a life locally, and it was for everyone in the community to use. The mindset of the people who did this is very scary as they clearly do not care about themselves or anyone else.
“It is a terrible act, there was no gain or merit from this, and they had to go out of their way to deface it. I see it as an act of madness and vandalism. I worry about the state of mind of a person who would do something like this.”
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to bring the information forward to the PSNI.
