A WOMAN who drove a lorry with a 40 foot trailer at an Irvinestown festival without insurance or a licence has been disqualified for driving for two months.
Alana Robb, 22 of Randalstown, County Antrim denied driving a Volvo articulated lorry during a charity truck run in Irvinestown on July 24th 2016 without a licence or insurance. Mr Kieran Lavery, of Magherafelt, County Derry, also faced charges of permitting driving without a licence, and permitting driving with no insurance on the same date.
Constable O’Hare was on motorcycle duty during the Irvinestown truck run, and was escorting vehicles at the junction of the Makenny Road, Irvinestown when he observed a lorry travelling at a slow pace, with a female driver. As the lorry was turning right, it took ‘a wider arc than the other lorries, and he observed a man reach across and assist the steering wheel to bring the lorry on course to go right.’
The Constable followed the lorry which pulled in at the Necarne parking bay, about one mile from the incident. When approached by the Police, the defendant, Alana Robb, denied driving the lorry stating she was a passenger throughout the truck run.
Giving evidence to the court, Alana Robb stated she was a passenger in Stephen Noble’s truck in the truck convoy. Ms Robb admitted to being in the drivers seat, but only when the lorry was stationary, for a photo opportunity saying, “I bounced into the drivers seat, thinking I was funny for the photographs.”
Kieran Lavery, managing director of Camden Group Ltd also gave evidence stating that Alana Robb was a passenger in Stephen Noble’s truck.
District Judge Nigel Broderick, stated he was not satisfied that the defendant’s account was accurate, and struggled to believe the defence’s case. Judge Broderick convicted both defendants of the charges. Alana Robb was fined £250 and disqualified from driving for two months while Kieran Lavery was also fined £250, and was disqualified from driving for six months.
