Portora is to be the permanent location of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, the Fermanagh Herald has learned.
It’s believed that the Education Minister Peter Weir and former First Minister Arlene Foster visited the site on Tuesday ahead of official confirmation of the news by the Department of Education tomorrow (Thursday).
The new voluntary co-educational school opened its doors last September and is currently run from two sites, Portora Royal School and Enniskillen Collegiate Grammar School.
Currently boys and girls are based on both the Cooper Crescent and Loughshore Road sites.
Year 11 pupils are being taught at the former Portora site to allow for maximum individual subject choice and avoid the disruption of pupil travel between the two school buildings. Year 8 students began at the Collegiate in order to balance the overall number of students on both sites.
Former Collegiate principal Elizabeth Armstrong is at the helm of ERGS following her appointment to the post of principal last March. Ms Armstrong was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Herald today.
