The group have appealed for help on their Facebook page to ensure that the 300 children supported by Fermanagh Women’s Aid (FWA) over the last year don’t go without gifts this Christmas. The busy team at FWA are really hoping that anyone who is in a position to purchase a gift can help ensure this is a magical time for children and young people.
Kerry Flood, Development Manager at the organisation’s Enniskillen office, told the Herald she is delighted with the huge response so far.
“We have had presents for everyone aged from two to seventeen and people have also been coming in to donate money and share their own personal stories. Every year the people of Fermanagh are so generous and I think that’s mainly because all the gifts stay in the community and go to children within the county.”
For many mums in Fermanagh availing of the services of FWA, Kerry says the generosity shown by locals should help ease some of the stress of Christmas.
“This takes the pressure off mums in particular who don’t have to worry because there will be gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. It also sends out a message to people about domestic violence and while they may not be able to fix the problem, their donations let the mums know that the community is behind them.”
Fermanagh Women’s Aid will be accepting donations right up to 20th December at their office at 19 Darling Street, Enniskillen and/or phone 028 66 32 88 98. You can also contact the group via their Facebook page. Eden Hair Studio, Santander and Tesco have also kindly offered their premises as drop off points for this year’s FWA appeal.
