Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard that police were on mobile patrol at 9pm on December 27th last at Windmill Heights in Enniskillen when they observed a Vauxhall Vectra car being driven by Bridget Lynch. Police stopped the car and when requested Lynch was unable to produce documentation for the vehicle, telling police that she was sorry, adding that she was driving a family car that was used by other members.
Mother-of-three Lynch (24) of Windmill Heights was charged with having no-plates displayed, driving unaccompanied and driving without insurance.
She also faced separate charges relating to an incident on May 1st when she was observed by officers driving a Ford Transit van at Melmount Road in Strabane and breaching the white line on two occasions.
Lynch was stopped by officers and failed a preliminary roadside breath test. She was brought to Strabane PSNI station where a second evidential breath test found her to be below the legal drink drive limit. On this occasion, she was charged with driving while disqualified and without insurance.
Defence barrister Stephen Fitzpatrick said that in relation to the incident last December, Lynch had taken “a foolish chance to drive a short distance to the shop” when she was detected. He added that when stopped in May, his client had been forced to leave a Travellers’ site under duress when she took the car out on the road while banned from driving.
Lynch was handed a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and banned from driving for 12 months. Fines totalling £100 were also imposed.
