The Christmas festivities in Enniskillen and Irvinestown will officially get underway with the annual switch-on of the Christmas lights in both towns tomorrow afternoon (Saturday).
This traditional kick-start to the Festive Season will be held in the Diamond, Enniskillen from 3.30pm until 5.30pm. As always there will be a varied programme of family entertainment, with performances from the Marty Fay Band, Silver Bands, a cross community choir and much more. As well as the entertainment on stage, there will be street entertainers and face painters to keep the children happy while they await the arrival of the star of the show, Santa himself, who will be leaving the Townhall at 4.30pm to meet and greet the families gathered.
Christmas also kicks off in Irvinestown at 4.45pm for the big switch on of their Christmas lights.
Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity said, “The switch-on of the Christmas Lights heralds the start of the Christmas season and is a great afternoon of fun and entertainment for all the family. The turnout for the switching on of the Christmas illuminations is always well supported by locals and visitors alike and I would urge everyone to come along to see a wonderful display of entertainment, light and colour.”
To facilitate the switch-on event in Enniskillen access via Water Street will be restricted from 4pm. A specially designated area at the front of the stage will be reserved for those with disabilities.
The switch-on of the illuminations is just the beginning of a bumper package of events to celebrate the festive season in Enniskillen. On Saturday 3rd December, from 10am to 5pm, the Council will host its Christmas Craft and Food Fair, with stalls located in both the Townhall and in the Diamond, Enniskillen. On the following two Saturdays, 10 and 17 December, from 12 noon to 4pm, ‘Seasonal Saturdays’ will bring a mix of entertainment to the Diamond, with face painters, street entertainers and festive music helping to get shoppers and visitors into the festive spirit.
