MEMBERS of Tempo Maguires GAC will honour their ‘great friend and active supporter’ the late Canon Tom Marron when they gather for his Month’s Memory Mass this weekend.
Canon Tom, who died on October 13th at the age of 89, served as Pastor Emeritus at St Macartan’s Church in Trillick following his retirement in 2002. Prior to that he served as parish priest in Tempo for 20 years. A keen sportsman, he trained camogie teams and was a regular face on the sidelines at local GAA matches which he travelled to with a car full of fellow supporters.
After Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tempo this Sunday, 16th October at 11am, a photograph display of many images of Canon Tom throughout his life, along with his many friends, will be on display at St Mary’s Community Centre.
Parishioners from Canon Tom’s previous parishes have provided their fun memories of his years spent in Cul Maine (Ederney), Errigal Truagh, Magherarney (Roslea), Tempo and Trillick.
To mark a month since his passing, club members felt it was important to organise an event of this nature to remember their dear friend. The club will also be unveiling a memorial trophy, to allow members of each of Canon Tom’s former parishes to remember his life, love and dedication to the people he served so willingly and his contribution to the promotion of GAA games in each of those places in a positive and fitting manner.
A spokesman for Tempo Maguires GAC told the Herald: “Canon Tom was a great friend and active supporter of Tempo Maguires during his many years in the parish and he is sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. There is no doubt that Canon Tom left a lasting impact everywhere he went and is remembered fondly in each of his former parishes.
“All those who knew and loved him are warmly welcomed to attend what promises to be an enjoyable event.”
