THERE’S a new kind of pet shop in Enniskillen, but shoppers need to be a special kind of pet owner to embrace the reptiles on offer.
Fermanagh’s Aquatic and Exotic Pet Store was opened last month by Raymond Bell, and stocks rabbits, snakes, scorpions and marine fish.
Although it may not be for everyone, the store which is situated at 30 New Street, Enniskillen has brought a unique product to Enniskillen’s pet scene and Raymond talks about opening Fermanagh’s only exotic pet store.
“The shop has been open for one month and it has been steady throughout with Saturday’s being very busy.
“The most popular pet would be a marine fish or a bearded dragon. The scorpions are selling quite well, the tarantulas are a wee bit slower but you need to be a special kind of person to want to own a tarantula!
The snakes are selling well too, especially the Corn Snakes. Every week or two we have new stock coming in to recycle what has been sold.”
The pets on offer are not for the faint hearted, especially if you are a bit squeamish. Crested Geckos, yellow belly trutles and live plants fill the shelves, while a variety of birds can be found chirping in their cages.
The store is ideal for anyone looking for something different as a pet, with people travelling from all over Fermanagh and quite a few from across the border to visit the shop.
“I have been keeping fish and exotic pets from a small age, and it just got out of control and I just ended up opening up a shop. The nearest shop that stocks marine stock would be Lisburn or Dublin. The shop is just stocking fish and exotic pets, I would not be interested in going down the dogs and cats market,” added Raymond.
