A 32-year-old Enniskillen man has been fined £250 after cannabis was found in his trouser pocket.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard that police called to an address at 9.30pm on August 26th to speak to a female about her juvenile son.
When police arrived, they found Patrick Reid in the kitchen of the property and detected a strong smell of cannabis. Officers noted that Reid appeared to be trying to conceal something before placing a grinder containing a green substance on the table. the item was seized and a herbal substance was found in Reid’s pocket.
Reid of Hillview Park in Enniskillen was charged with possession of herbal cannabis. The amount was described in court as a “small and difficult to quantify”.
Defence solicitor Michael Fahy said Murphy had a limited previous record and noted that it was four years since he was last involved in criminality.
“He says that he doesn’t have a drug problem and that his usage is ad hoc,” Mr Fahy added.
District Judge Nigel Broderick issued a destruction order for the drug. He noted that given the length of time since Murphy’s last conviction and the small amount of drug involved, he would deal with the matter by way of a monetary penalty on this occasion and imposed the fine.
