AN Irvinestown man who was reportedly drunk and sleeping at his ex-partner’s house called police “black bastards” and punched one in the face last weekend.
Matthew Goan (32) of Moynaghan Road, Irvinestown appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday charged with two counts of assaulting police after he was arrested at the house in Ederney last Sunday, September 18.
The officers had called to the house after the resident rang police to say her former partner was heavily intoxicated and in her home, and she wanted him to leave.
When they arrived at the home, they found Goan, who had a previous conviction for criminal damage, asleep upstairs.
When they woke him he was calm at first, but then became aggressive, calling the officers “black bastards” and shouting “I’ll bust your face.” Goan then punched one of them in the face, busting his lip, and had to be handcuffed.
After hearing an outline of the incident District Judge Nigel Broderick adjourned the case until October 17 so a pre-sentence report could be carried out by probation services.
He released Goan on his own bail of £500, with the conditions he does not drink alcohol or enter a licensed premises, that he keeps to a curfew from 11pm-7am, and that he resides at his address at Moynaghan Road.
