A JUDGE has ruled that a Fermanagh man facing child pornography charges should not be named in the press after he received medical evidence stating the man would kill himself if his identity was revealed.
The man, who is charged with making and possessing indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of a child and a third charge of being in possession of extreme pornographic images, appeared before Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday for an update on his case. No further details were given as to the nature of the charges against him.
District Judge Nigel Broderick had previously ruled the man’s name and address could not be released after his defence team had requested a publication order be imposed. Judge Broderick granted the order temporarily, pending the production of medical evidence.
On Monday, this medical evidence, from two health professionals, was shown to the press. It stated the man was of high risk of suicide if his name was published. As such, Judge Broderick ruled his identity should not be revealed at this time.
Judge Broderick adjourned the case for four weeks, until October 16, for an update pending a full file from the Public Prosecution Service.
The man is currently on bail of £500, on the condition he has no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, unless approved by Social Services.
