Detectives investigating a shooting incident in the Main Street area of Belleek this morning are continuing to appeal for information.
Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said: “It is now believed that four armed and masked men arrived at a hotel on Main Street shortly before 9.30am and threatened staff. They fired one shot into the van of a contractor working there before making off. There was no one in the van at the time and no one sustained any injuries during the incident. The men are all described as wearing dark coloured overalls with white stripes and balaclavas.
“The men made off in a black coloured Ford Escort car in the direction of the border. A car matching the description was discovered on fire a short time later in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison where it is believed that the 4 males then left in a second unknown vehicle. Local officers are continuing to work closely with An Garda Siochana to trace their movements.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the Main Street area of Belleek this morning or anyone who may have witnessed the men abandoning the Ford Escort car in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison to contact detectives at Enniskillen on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting reference number 272 02/08/16. Alternatively, if you would prefer to provide information without giving details, please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
