A 29-year-old man, who stole car accessories to the value of £700 from a Derrylin car wash, has been handed a suspended prison sentence and order to pay compensation.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that police were alerted to a report of stolen car accessories that were taken from Mountain Car Wash in Derrylin on February 28th.
Bernard McDonagh of Drumawill Gardens, Drumawill, Enniskillen was charged with the theft of tyres, alloy wheels, a socket set, battery charger, spray gun and a sum of cash. The court heard that he was identified by blood swabs taken from a TV stand on the premises but when questioned McDonagh could offer police no account of how his DNA was found at the scene.
Defence solicitor, Myles McManus said that his client had a significant record in the Republic of Ireland but no previous convictions in this jurisdiction and wished to apologise for his behaviour.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said that was minded to give McDonagh a custodial sentence but would not do so after heaing that he is undertaking community service in the Republic. The judge said that without some hestitation, he would impose a five month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months and made a £700 compensation order.
